Professor Joe

thanks so much for helping Zimboeu with the problems on a donated
machine, last week when I was gone. He is equally as impressed as I am
with this group :)

Now, have come upon a problem with an xp home machine.

There is no Add/Remove Programs in CntlPanel. Have done safemode/6
antivir-spywr-adware-etc. progs and cleaned out. Reboot with no change.
Same for sfc/scannow.

Any ideas please? Any Win module to run and repair?

Professor Joe

Hello,

Start > Run > Appwiz.cpl > OK

Kelly's site has registry fixes as well
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
(Line 146 - right, Line 188 - left, Line 208 - right)

Another thing you can try - install Tweak Ui and look under Control Panel,
check the box for Add/Remove programs to unhide it.

The Prof! :)

I am back.

Singapore, do you remember the fine advice you gave about export/import
the SafeBoot key a couple wks.ago?

Well Kellys is down. I did the run/appwiz which pulled it up, but the
title is still not in CntlPanel.

I went surfing, and found this
Prevent Users from using Add/Remove Programs successfully - Use
Regedit, go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion, and
remove the AppsInstallPath key.

which I do not have that key (reverse thinking).

Is this something I can export from xppro and import into xphome
machine?

Just thinking here.. :)

Professor Joe

Hello,

Kelly's site is up now.

You can try the Tweak UI software I mentioned.

With regards to the registry key, not sure which key it is, sorry.

My personal recommendation for all your donated systems is to reinstall the
OS and drivers rather than repairing them. That way, you will have a clear
conscience that the system is fully clean. Who knows what other
malware/problems may be still inside?
