Ironing out bugs after crash recovery and need some help please

Greets,

I experienced a catastrophic type crash about a month ago, lost an
entire partition and system corrupted. I repaired XP boot process, then
did an inplace upgrade. After that I did an SFC and everything checked
fine. Plugged in a new HD and copied the system over, defragged ran
another SFC and everything checked fine. Found I had errors when
trying to uninstall, used Windows Install Cleanup to fix that. I went
to WinUpdate and brought the system up to date.I've run MemTest from
boot and within windows,no problems found. Did a Registry check, couple
of broken links, fixed them and once again everything checks fine. Now
after all that Im still having individual problems with 3rd party
apps. Uninstalled/reinstalled whatever was showing problems....but
problems persist. Whenever my machine is using resource hog programs I
experience one of three types of errors. If I'm running 3 or 4
different apps I'll get a lot of HD activity then whichever one is
active will lock & close. If its just one program of say the video
conversion persuasion I get an access violation or a write error. The
third type of error results in XP rebooting with apparently no
knowledge that it happened, just reboots like everythings peachie. Also
I've noticed that new entries in the registry are using DOS style
paths ie: Progam~1/Netch~2.exe. I've had this problem before and found
the only sure cure was to do a fresh install and rebuild the system
entirely. What I want to know is if there is something else I can do
to repair or at least figure out whats wrong because I just don't want
to spend a couple days reinstalling everything again.

question:

do you know if Progam~1/Netch~2.exe is the application you install?
if so the application may well be DOS app and they don't follow XP rule for
yielding to other applications.

have you run virus and malware scanners?

try online scanners from
trend micro
panda
MacAfee
try out Microsoft anti-spyware

etc

There comes a point where it's going to be quicker to just format and then
rebuild a system. From what you have described you are at that point. I am
sure that you could track down all the problems causing the symptoms you are
experiencing but how long would it take. It sounds like you have multiple
problems which can make the repair process very tedious. Backup your data
and start fresh.

No windows is writing to the registry like that. No
virus/spyware/malware.

Of course it can't fix itself. I don't know of any OS that could once it
reaches the point your system has. I did say you could probably fix it but
the cost in time probably isn't worth it. You should already have a backup
system in place anyway. If you don't you are playing with fire and will
eventually get burned.

What I meant was that its stating that it is in fact 100% ok when in
fact it isn't. Go figure.

For anyone who cares, problem resolved. IRQ conflict was the
culprit, gee thought XP didn't have them. Repair procedure as follows :
Turned off the machine, unplugged the audio card, restarted the
machine,turned machine off,reinstalled audio card,turned machine back
on,problem gone.

Glad to hear you got it fixed without doing a full re-install.
