Desktop and Documents problems

another machine just donated:
I always run the chkdsk /f /r and sfc/scannow on them first. Then give
them a work over ;)

This one has no desktop tab in Properties. I tried the tip at kelly's
korner regarding it, rebooted, no change.

Also off the start menu, My Documents does not show.
In WinExplorer it is not directly below Desktop seperately.
Did a search in case it accidently got moved by previous owner, it is
under Docs-Setts. I tried to move it up under Desktop, didn't work.
It is a xphome machine.

Much thanks good people and have a great day!

another thing:
If we are playing with a few programs on the machine, and you have to
go to WinExplorer and open a file that program uses, it says "folder
cannot be used. Please choose another"...

The programs are varied, is there something needing fixed in
WinExplorer????

So far:
Lotus
3D Magic
Double Killer
Batch Renamer
HJSplit

no consistency in type of programs.....

registry setting?

Much thanks good people.

Review the Values at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders
in regedt32, and be sure the Edit Menu/Permissions are still enabled.

Mark L. Ferguson explained on 4/30/2007 :
Create a new user, and profile, and see if the errors are there also. If so,
it has a corrupt Default Profile.

from Starting:

If there is no backup registry from the original install, you will have to
restore to factory defaults.

thanks Mark, you are always so helpful, will report back with my
findings tomorrow! Going to attack it tonight!

no such luck.......................just was going thru the journal of
changes, programs, etc. the previous owner made, impeccable. But he did
a rollback to factory defaults just three wks.ago and then he got sick
and is now in a home. Me-thinks the rollback to factory defaults was
sick too ;)
