A key from Hkey_Current_User got modified after uninstalling Novel

Hello, first time poster.

We had Novell until aoout 2 months ago when we migrated to AD. After the
"acclimatization" process it was decided we would uninstall the Novell log in
window. Well, it just so happens that after we did the deed the HOMESHARE key
got modified in a bad way and this affects a program.

Our "home folders" are now located in "My documents", which in turn is
located in a network disk with UNC mapping. On a successful uninstallation
the Homeshare key should look like \\server\users$\username. On most of our
computers, that same key looks like \\server\users$\ and this affects our
mail and database client, Lotus Notes, in a way that it won't start up.

We got a hotfix from Microsoft but it doesn't work for us.

We run XP Pro SP2 fully updated on Dell Optiplex and Precision (multiple
models) computers. And not all the computers have this problem, which makes
the problem even weirder for us.
Any tips out there for me?

Greetings from Sweden

I would compare their key at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders
with the key of a 'working' member.

Hello Mark,

May I ask what's relevant about this?
I'm not being a wise @ss, I'm just trying to understand all this in case I
have to explain it to one of my users.

As I understand the problem, your users have the wrong path to their "My
Documents" folders (The HOMESHARE variable). Only looking will tell you what
those actually are, and if the variation is consistant with the problem.
How you fixed it would depend on how you set it. The "ProfilesDir"variable
is available during an unattended setup (see setup cd/Deploy.cab/ref.chm).
Software Update server can do that. You might even be using a reg file. It
would be hard to guess.

Hello Mark,

I checked the values of
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders of a user with the problem, and a newly installed computer and they
have the same values. Apparently the only users who don't have a problem with
this are the ones with a laptop, because they get Lotus Notes installed on
their C: while we the ones with a desktop computer have it running from a
network drive.

Any more tips?
