A free SSH service/daemon for Windows XP?

A

Ant

Hello!

Currently, I use the default telnet services that comes with Windows XP,
but we all know it is insecured. Is there a free small SSH server I can
use download and install to replace telnet server/daemon? It needs to
small and not hog RAM. Basically, I just need cmd.exe access with
security and I don't use it often.

I looked at http://www.openssh.org/windows.html and didn't see any. They
all appear to be clients based.

Thank you in advance. :)

There is an SSH server as part of the Cygwin port of Unix software. Not
the tidiest solution. I bought WinSSHD instead http://www.bitvise.com/.

When you said not the tidiest solution, is it because it is complex to
install and setup just for SSH service? I looked at the Web site, and it
seems like I have to install its suite.

You have to install the lot.

Roger,

Note that distribution has *NOT* been updated in over a year. That is why I
moved from that distribution to copSSH which is updated when updates to
OpenSSH, Cygwin and OpenSSL are made.

As it happens, it's probably been about a year since I last installed it.
(I don't do a whole of work with Windows at this point.) Thanks for the
info, I'll check copSSH out for future use!
