a different system restore problem !!!!!

when i try to use system restore it seems to start I
click on the date i want then click next all seems fine
then the egg timer changes back to the normal cursor and
nothing else happens when i try the process again but
look at todays date it shows that a restore operation
took place, when i look in the registry it shows ( 2) ie
that the process was interupted Why???
I have tried many of the fixes in this forum, it seems
like the system restore utility isn't very reliable!!
will I have to reinstall xp to slove this problem ?
can anyone help??

Probably not. What you should do first is delete all restore files and then
allow it to generate new restore points. If the restore area is corrupt it
exhibits this kind of behavior.
