A difference between the box version of XP and the one you get with a new PC?

Greetings,

I think I am having trouble with a new PC. Things don't act the same between my Laptop and my Desktop.

I even tried a clean install the CD asked for filenames that were on the CD but with the full extension. Of course there are no
files with a full extension on the CD.

Things just don't seem the same.

Computer mftrs. modify the operating system to some extent. An HP laptop
will seem different than a Dell desktop.

However, you didn't specify what the exact problem is. Post back after
reviewing the link below to see what details to include:

While trying to install a piece of software, XP would keep asking if I had rights to configure the Registry. Get permission from the
Administer.

I am the only one, as stupid as it sounds, I am the Admin.

Like I said earlier, I could NOT do a clean install.

Besides, where did the place that I bought everything come up with the Anti-Virus? It didn't come on the CD.

And if I could figure why the Network Wizard doesn't work. At least it see the other machines on the LAN. Wired or wireless. This
will come in time.

You are still not providing any useful information. All I can give you
are general suggestions.

1. Difficulties in installing an operating system are usually because of
faulty hardware. Since you had difficulties doing a clean install, run
hardware diagnostics on the machine. Replace any faulty hardware and do
another clean install. Here are general hardware troubleshooting steps:

2. I have no idea what this means: "where did the place that I bought
everything come up with the Anti-Virus? It didn't come on the CD."
You've told me nothing about the computer so I can't answer that
question.

3. I don't know why the Network Wizard doesn't work. I expect the
installation is at fault, but that's just a WAG.

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA). The
same goes for troubleshooting - if the procedures aren't your cup of
tea, let a professional deal with it.

Too bad the newsgroups don't require you to put your system specs in a
profile or something. There are only a gazillion configurations. If this
guy has a laptop, he's going to have a ball swapping parts.
