My CRT monitor has both analog and dvi inputs. Im using the analog rite now
and the monitor keeps loosing its pincushion and size settings, I have to
keep adjusting every other day or so. If I switch to the DVI inputs will
this issue be resolved or is this a problem with the monitor. BTW the
Monitor is a NEC FP1350x 22" I got it from Tiger direct for 199.00
reburbished about a year and a half ago. Its been a great buy but this issue
has always bugged me.

Reburbished? Was the monitor shipped to you via UPS? They've been well known
for bishing monitors (ala dropping them).

All it takes is a 3 foot drop (in the factory box) and any monitor over a 17
inch will be ****ed.
That's why the push to sell LCD's, shipping weight & handling.

I've heard stories of UPS "Temps" during Xmas rush "Field Goaling" packages
into the back of the brown truck.

If this has been plaguing you since day one "always bugged me" why didn't
you return the monitor?

I know you meant refurbished, very risky IMO due to the shipping charges for
a warranty return.
Been through that a couple of time with a store bought new monitor. (5-6
months & many phone calls)
Best way to buy a monitor IMO is store bought from a very large computer
store (Micro Center, CompUSA) with a no questions asked return policy.
Leave the monitor on 24/7 for about 2 weeks and if you aren't satisfied,
take it back and exchange it or get your money back.

The users over in sci.electronics.repair maybe able to help you out more.

$199 sounds like a deal. I paid $500 for a 15" NEC and thought I did well.
The losing of setting is a monitor problem all right. I would not think
switching to DVI would help but give it a try and see.

Just yesterday I stumbled on a site that's selling refurbished Dell
21" P1110 CRT monitors for $79. Now it's probably one of the,
if not *the* most failure-prone monitor ever sold... But still, when
they work they're downright gorgeous:

Why don't you try the DVI connection first, since the 9800Pro is well
capable of it?

When the monitor loses its screen geometry settings, does it always reverts
back to its default profile, or is it different every time? This could be as
simple as a failed battery for storing OSD settings... I once had an Asus
motherboard that kept resetting the BIOS to defaults; annoyed the hell outta
me.

Ususally the horizontal stretches out about half the size of the close
button at the top of internet explorer or the pincusion changes. I readjust
then its fine for a couple of days. Its not that big of a deal just kind of
annoying. Like I said before monitor looks great for gaming. IMHO Large
CRT's have it all over LCD's Tiger Woods played at 1600X1200 With setting
maxed on a 22" is Awsome.
