DVI hookup to LCD monitor

Will be replacing an aging 17" CRT with a new Dell E173FP 17" LCD monitor,
which has DVI and analog input. My Radeon 8500 has DVI out. Just hook it up
to the DVI ports and that's it? Or are there any special settings required
in the ATI control panel? Other than image quality, is there any other
advantage to using DVI vs analog?

Just also make sure the LCD is set for the DVI, not the analog input.
Some Dell displays have a button on the front for switching (my 2001FP
does), others you might need to go into the displays' menu. Everyone
states that DVI will give a sharper picture than analog, I'm too lazy to
take the time to hook up my PC to mine via the analog....

No particular settings, just connect DVI and you should be ok.

Yes this is true I have an Eizo L565 17" TFT and with DVI its definitely a
sharper image and better clarity can see it straight away in my eyes :)
Only issue is your limited to 60Hz max using DVI on my model don't know if
this is same for all TFT using DVI. (my model is pretty old now)
