98 Box cant see XP Box

I have two PCs running through a linkysys router. One is 98SE, the
other is XPHome running SP2. Both are part of the MSHOME workgroup.
ALL firewall software has been disabled and uninstalled so I can solve
this problem.

From the XP box, I can see the 98 box shares and printers.

From the 98 box, I cannot see the shares and printers XP box, but I
CAN successfully ping it.

When I go to XP and choose "View Workgroup Computers" the only one
that shows up is the 98 box.

This is a fresh install of XP with SP2 on a new hard drive. When I
boot to my old hard drive pre-SP2, I can share both ways, see both PCs
in the workgroup, and life is good. I have looked high and low to
figure out what could be different but nothing jumps out at me.

Any ideas on a fix, or where to look between the two to discover the
differences?

as usual... the dumb obvious answer sometimes eludes me...

I managed to share the correct folders but did not turn on file and
print sharing at the lan connection level.

doh!
