98 Can't see XP computer

George

I have a desktop with XP Pro. and a laptop with 98se. I'm
using a Netgear mrb814v2 router and a ma104 wireless card
on a 98SE laptop and netgear nic card on the desktop.
I can 'see' the laptop from the xp desktop and access lap
drives. Both systems can access the internet. The laptop
doesn't 'see' the desktop or shared folders of the XP
machine but it can access the internet. Using 'ping, I
cang ping everything from everything else.

I 'run=\\laptop' from the run command on the 98 machine
and can 'see' the shares on the xp machine, but I cannot
access them. I get an 'insufficent memory' message.
When I look at Network neighborhoods on the 98 machine,
it only see's itself, (laptop) and no other machines.
Both machines are inthe 'workgroup' workgroup.

So...internet access from both,
xp to 98 connects (full),
98 to xp cannot see shares
all can ping everywhere. seem to be in the same
workgroup....
?????

Netgear Tech support says...not their problem...contact
Microsoft.

Searched MS Knowledgebase...couldn't fine an answer..

Help.

The problem is probably that an antivirus program has changed an
obscure TCP/IP setting. Please see this Microsoft Knowledge Base
article for a likely solution, specifying a value of 15 for
IRPStackSize on the XP computer:
