98 4.7 messenger with XP Home

Hi I need help to set up my friend with the talk on 4.7
messenger he uses windows 98 2nd edtion. (It does not
work when trying to talk with other 98 setups either)

I have done all the wizard tests at his end, the problem
is when in the wizard the microphone Graph bar does not
work even though I have set all the settings as per the
book.
He can however hear the other person speaking.

His microphone works ok when used to talk over over his
speakers.

What has gone wrong please and how do we fixit?

you will have to go into the sound managment in the
system, control panel. and mute the mic.
The mic option may not be available, you'll have to go to
properites, and then check to mute it. then run the
wizard again.
NOTe:
your friend will not hear himself on the speaker, but the
other end will hear him.

Hi Steven I will give your suggestion a try as soom as I
can. My friend lives 90 miles away and is not YET able
to do this on his own!
I will ask him to let some one help him at his end. I
hope it works!
