Hi All,

My son has a strange problem with MSN Messenger, latest version. He has
just upgraded to XP Pro from Win98 and has reinstalled MSN Messenger and
his video cam with no change in the problem.

The problem: On clicking "Start a Video conversation" the picture shows
up fine on both ends but his microphone and speaker have the red X over
them in the upper and lower windows respectively. No sound is
transmitted or received. When using a Voice conversation, the sound is
transmitted fine. He can hear himself locally over the speakers

Try as we might, we have been unable to get the sound and voice working
together. The Messenger wizard tests pass just fine.

The whole setup worked well under W98SE

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Hi All,

I guess noone had any ideas. Well here is an udate as to what I have
found will work although not the most desirable way.

By establishing a voice conversation and talking for a moment, then
click on the "Start web cam" icon (Webcam under the display picture)
the camera starts up and a video and voice conversation can take place.

I should add that the end in trouble uses XPPro SP2 with the Windows
firewall disabled (service on disable). MSN messenger was added before
the establishment of 4 users (3 restricted and 1 admin.) but never
tested It has subsequently been uninstalled and then reinstalled to no
avail by the admin user .

Any ideas??

TIA
