9600XT and DVI adapter

I just bought a 9600XT to replace my Sapphire Radeon 9000Pro. On my 9000Pro
I was able to plug my Viewsonic P810 into the DVI port and it booted
perfectly. On my new 9600XT I did the same and my screen went black. I
couldn't see the boot-up screen if my computer's life depended on it. The
only time it came on was AFTER Windows XP loaded. I have no idea why this
card doesn't come on at boot-up, but I'm trying to figure out if it's worth
keeping. BTW, it works fine if I put a regular VGA adapter on the card and
the monitor.

Not a techie but on my 9600 Pro my projector on the DVI connection is the
default secondary monitor which needs the graphics drivers to be loaded to
enable secondary monitors - hence (maybe) the problem you describe?

Is this the case on yours? Is your monitor on the DVI down as the
secondary?

If you go into display properties then settings and choose the secondary
monitor and then tick 'use this display as the primary monitor' (unchecking
the option from the other display first) does this make a difference?

HTH, Shawk.

It didn't matter if the software was set for DVI as the default or not. The
display just doesn't come on until Windows XP loads. There's absolutely no
bios screen or anything. The only time you can boot up with the DVI port and
actually see the bios settings is if it's with a LCD monitor...or so the
instructions seem to say.

When you say "default" do you mean "primary display"?
