832483 again? (win2k SP4)

P

Pavel A.

Yesterday I've installed patch 832483 thru Automatic updates applet.
(It downloaded this update before few days but I installed it only yesterday).
Today it offers me this patch again... Why?

And there is a record in eventlog: "Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update.
- Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483)" so I am not dreaming :(

There is a problem with this update being offered over again which is being
investigated right now.

For what it's worth...I have the same symptom. I
downloaded the recommended Component Checker (2.0) and it
can not identify the version of Data Access Components
installed. It fails to identify the version of most of
the components installed.

I also have this symptom, on several different machines.
Component Checker identifies my MDAC as version 2.61.
When I look at the hotfix log, it looks like it is only
checking for versions 2.52, 2.53, 2.62, 2.70, 2.71, and
2.80.

That is correct. You could upgrade to either 2.62 or 2.8 and that should
fix the problem.

I've noted same trouble on Win2k Pro - 5 days = 5 auto
installs, no reboot after patch?

Also, noted Automatic Updates dialog is now locked - Keep
my computer...Automatically download. (Options greyed out)

When installed locally ENU_Q832483_MDAC_x86.EXE, an error
log is reaised: An error occurred while setup was trying
to verify the version of Microsoft Data Access Components
current installed on the machine.

The recommended MS diagnostic - \comcheck\comcheck.exe,
shows ver 2.6 of MDAC RTM installed, (ver 2.60.6526.0 date
07/26/2002), matches FullInstallVer registry key:
2.60.6526.2.

The KB832483, Hot Fix (apply log) appears to be checking
components that match 2.60.65226.2: from the 'comcheck'
File details -- I have a total of six that don't match!
Displayed as 'UNKNOWN' in the summary report.

Including:

SQLOLEDB.DLL, Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server,
date="08/6/2000" fileVersion="2000.080.0194" size="491584"
version="2000.80.194.0"

SQLSRV32.DLL, Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver,
date="08/6/2000" fileVersion=" 2000.080.0194.00"
size="471119" version="2000.80.194.0"

Thank you,
-Bryan
