64bt Operating Systems

I have two physically independent drives and on the default drive I have 32
bit XPpro/SP2/IE7, many programs a much data. On the slave drive I installed
(as a precursor of VIsta 64 bit) I installed 64 bit XPpro and was able to
update it normally. But then on re-booting I found there were now two
default drives. This was disastrous as obviously there was "mbr" corruption
and could not open either of the drives (though I did manage to do so in Safe
Mode and was able to rescue data) and had to re-install tediously from
scratch.

Usually I have a second copy of 32 bit XPpro on the slave drive with which I
have no problem.

I need help in putting 64 bit XPpro ( and imminently 64 bit Vista) on to my
slave drive without finding that I cannot use the default drive
