480 x 272 screen resolution

I am working with a client to create an WinXpe device which has a built
in TFT screen. The client has specified a 4" 480 x 272 resolution
screen. Before I get too involved in researching their requirements
can WinXpe be run at resolutions less than 640 x 480?

That is dependent on the hardware and driver. I assume it would
be connected by LVDS?

We are looking to use the VIA EPIA EN12000E motherboard with the
optional LVDS module connector.

I have an EPIA SP1200 board at work which is a similar beast. I'll hook
it up in a few hours and take a look at what resolutions it supports.

Mike is correct this is dependent on the driver and the HW, then yes XPe
will support it.

FWIW, I think it was the Chips and Technologies driver that I've seen down
to 320x240. Of course, Windows XP resolution was *not* designed with that in
mind so the user experience was kind of weird, but it did work. <grin>

The board I have here is a EPIA-SP13000 LVDS and in the BIOS
it lists 640 x 480 as the lowest panel resolution. The documentation
doesn't list the compatible display modes in windows and I don't
have an XP/XPe configuration for it at the moment.

We only got this board to evaluate it and it turned out not to be
powerful enough for us.

Maybe an email to VIA would help.

Thanks for the responses at least I know the basic concept is OK I just
have to try and track down the correct hardware driver combination.

Something else I just thought of: I have seen some systems, when
set to a higher resolution than the LCD monitor is capable of will
go into a "pan" mode where only a portion of the desktop is visible.
Moving the mouse past the edge of the screen causes the desktop
to pan.

If you are going to have your own shell, it would still be usable. Just
limit mouse movement and create your windows accordingly.
