45+ Min Windows XP load

After install a fresh copy of XP Home W/ SP2 my computer runs perfect. Once I
start updating via Microsoft Update my comp goes from a 30sec to a 45+ min
Windows start up. It seems that different updates cause the problem and a
system restore, even when successful doesn't fix the problem. I've got a
spotless comp with all working hardware. My ram is 2GB. Please help.
