4 min hang on startup - no adware

i have xp on a 1667mhz,120gb,512mb ram, machine.my
problem is during startup or reboot(any thing that
requires restart) my computer "hangs" for nearly 4
minutes. i haven't recently installed any new s/ware or
h/ware. i have norton utilities and have run "win doctor"
which check registry for any probs, that is ok. I
use "IBS Startup editor" to check what programs are
running at startup. all that is in there are present on
my harddrive. there is one line that i want to remove but
cannot for some reason, when i do it just appears back,
even if i delete it by using "REGEDIT", it is "windows
system tray - d:\bigbrothermonitor\dlhost.exe". i
cannot remove the file it points to either.
The machine comes on, does memory test and drive
detects, comes up with the black screen and XP logo on
it. when this goes blank, thats when it hangs.

I have scanned and removed any adware but prob still
exists.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Sorry to say, but you may have a virus. One thing you can
do is change your C:\boot.ini file and add /sos to the end
of the Windows XP line. This will list everything as it's
loaded so you can see where it's hanging.

If this is an actual windows file, it's protected by
windows file protection that replaces it as soon as you
delete it. I know there's a dllhost.exe associated with
COM+ features, but I'm not sure if that's what you're
referring to. Check the services that are running as well
(Right click my computer->manage->Services and Apps->Services)

As for virus possibility, if you don't have anti-virus
installed, go to Trend Micro's website and run their online
scan. For a very good FREE anti-virus go to grisoft.com
for AVG Anti-virus. You may need to create emergency disks
from another pc with an anti-virus running and run it from
the disks as well. After you've cleaned your system, go to
windows update and update your system completely, download
AdAware and Search and Destroy and turn on Internet
Connection Firewall from your network connection properties
page.

thanks for ur time,i dont have a virus and it isnt
hanging on a particular file. all system files appear to
be loading up until it "CHECKS" the drives. all drives
show up as "clear". when this process finishes thats
where it hangs. In services, i dont know what SHOULD be
running so i dont know if this is right.
