i have xp on a 1667mhz,120gb,512mb ram, machine.my
problem is during startup or reboot(any thing that
requires restart) my computer "hangs" for nearly 4
minutes. i haven't recently installed any new s/ware or
h/ware. i have norton utilities and have run "win doctor"
which check registry for any probs, that is ok. I
use "IBS Startup editor" to check what programs are
running at startup. all that is in there are present on
my harddrive. there is one line that i want to remove but
cannot for some reason, when i do it just appears back,
even if i delete it by using "REGEDIT", it is "windows
system tray - d:\bigbrothermonitor\dlhost.exe". i
cannot remove the file it points to either.
The machine comes on, does memory test and drive
detects, comes up with the black screen and XP logo on
it. when this goes blank, thats when it hangs.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I have a similar problem, I think.
Mine boots up to the point that I can actually hear the
startup sound and even play with any of the icons on the
desktop, but the whole start bar is inoperable. Then the
screen blanks, and it takes a good while longer before it
will respond to anything. It's really annoying. I don't
know what it is, but I do know that you can use
BootVis.exe (available at
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/platform/performance/f
astboot/BootVis.mspx) to see what's going on when you
boot up. Play with this and see if it's starting
anything you don't want.

Good luck.
