Hi,
I downloaded Service Pack 2 from the official Microsoft site yesterday
(the 260MB version as I have quite a few machines). I installed it on
one of my PCs and everything seemed to be fine. However, I then started
up a 3D Game on my computer (Halo), it got past all the splash screens,
but when the game actually attempted to start properly (i.e. show its
interface), nothing displayed. When I use the keyboard, I can hear the
menu items being selected, but the display is corrupted. Wondering if
this was just a problem with Halo, I tried to load the game "Far Cry"
and had exactly the same result. The gaming is loading correctly but
failing to render on screen.
I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) and am using the latest Catalyst
drivers (4.7). Has anyone else found any incompatibilities with the ATI
drivers? I am assuming this is a graphics driver issue (possibly
DirectX 9.0c and the ATI drivers conflicting), but I haven't found any
other related posts, so am wondering if this is just my system that has
gone wrong. I have of course tried reinstalling my graphics drivers and
I ran DXDiag and it managed to render its DirectDraw and DirectX 7, 8
and 9 tests correctly.
If anyone has encountered similar problems (and hopefully solved them),
any advice would be most appreciated. Please let me know if I have
missed any relevant information or if I haven't posted to the correct place.
Thanks,
Matthew
