300GB HDD - PC constantly resets

I am running a P4 3.2Ghz HT with 1.5GB of DDR RAM, on a GIGABYTE GA-8IP775
with Intel 865P chipset motherboard, with only a Seagate Barricuda
ST3300622AS 300GB SATA Hard Drive, running with BIOS SATA settings as Auto
(IDE Pri. Master).

Originally my drive would not read about 127GB when used as the master
drive. I e-mailed Seagate tech-support & I was informed that I must install
Windows XP Service Packs 1 & 2, then extend the partition. I done this, which
allowed all 300GB (279GB) to be read, & now my computer constantly & randomly
resets itself, which results in corrupted system files & a non-functioning
Windows XP. At first it happened randomly, then after installing Norton
Internet Security 2005 it would not even finish loading the desktop before it
reset itself without warning (this also occured while running as a Seconday
Slave drive). Can someone please help me properly fix this problem asap, I am
VERY annoyed & confused. This hard drive is brand new & was not cheap on my
budjet.

There were reports that a drive formated/partitioned with pre big Lba
support, and then the sp was updated to enable big Lba, and the resulting
free space then partitioned, could in theory cause corruption.
So it is often reccommended that a slipstreamed win cd be made that includes
the latest sp, so the whole hd size may be utilised during the installation,
even if you create multiple partitions.
Whether this is your problem..........?
There have also been problems reported with Maxtor large disks that are
sata2, the problems are usually overcome by using the jumper on the maxtor
sata hd to enforce sata1

after reboot, which contains the following:

8E err msgs are generally hardware/driver related
50 are usually memory (main or vid)

Have you checked for updated bios, and ensured you installed your sys
drivers/chipset drivers from manu, and not from win update?
For memory test try this http://www.memtest.org/
You may have to run memtest for several hours, or more
