3 New Directories?

R

Ron Patterson

When I installed XP 2 weeks ago, I recall I had only 3 sub-directories under
Documents and Settings:
All Users
Default User
Ron Patterson

Now just today I notice two additional sub-directories:
LocalService
NetworkService

Apparently these were created 2 weeks ago, but I never remember seeing them
here. Is it my memory at fault
or can they suddenly appear out of nowhere? Since I am a sole user on one
machine, are they needed? Can I delete them?

Do Start > Run > services.msc > OK. Look at the "Log On As" column.
See the services that are in "Started" status, and are set to log on as
"Network Service" or "Local System"? Those are the reason for the two
directories under "Documents and Settings" you described. Just leave
those directories.

Yes they are needed, no you can't delete them (and if you do they'll
just come back).

You normally also have an 'Administrator' subdirectory, unless you have
never logged on as Administrator (possible, especially if this is XP
Home).
