2nd hard drive access?

I just upgraded from '98 to XP. When i tried to access my second hard drive
(d the coputer froze up for a few seconds then booted me out to the
desktop. Is there some action I need to take to make this drive accessible to
me with XP?

How is it listed in My Computer and in Disk Management?

Tim,
In My Computer it is listed as'40GB(D', I am not familiar with Disk
Management, new to XP as I am, after reading your response I found disk
management in help and tried to look at it but I couldn't even make it list
the drives on my machine so I guess more research is required on disk
management, lol.
Also - a little history, I placed a new hard drive on my machine while i was
still using Win98SE, the original hard drive was moved to D: drive, and the
new drive became C:, with fresh load of Win98SE, when my windows problems
weren't much better i decided to upgrade to XP Home Edition. The old drive,
now D:, is the one that I am trying to access. Don't know if that is
pertinent info, but wanted to make sure you understood the arrangement.

Tim,
OK, little more familiar with Disk MAnagement, except i havent figured out
how to open except thru Help, lol. The drive is also listed as 40GB(D there
and it says it is healthy and active, hope this helps.

There are several ways to get into Disk Management. A quick way is
to rt-clk on My Computer, lft-clk on Manage, lft-clk on Disk Management.
It will display information about the drives it sees in the system including
info about each partition. If there are more than 2 partitions on a HD,
the one marked "active" will be indicated. Otherwise, rt-clking on a
partition will either present the option "Mark Partition as Active" or it
will be grayed out. If it is grayed out, the partition is already marked
"active". Other important info will be the size of the partition and what
type of file system it's formatted for. Is the type of file system in D: the
same as the file system in your new OS?

OK, thanks for the info on Disk Management. Everything seems to be OK now, i
was able to access D: drive, copy and transfer files, etc.. So Im not sure
what I was doing wrong but its working fine now, thanks for the help.
