Question:- I have two hard drives, one running xp pro the other home. When
my bot-up sequence stops and asks me which o/s i want to use, it will only
boot into mine, the other selection will not boot-up. I can access the
files of the other h/d when I am logged on to mine, but cannot boot up into
the 2nd hard drive. Any help, suggestions, ideas will be most welcome.
Thank you.

Wich o/s did you install last?

During boot up, you get a menu asking which o/s you wnat. You select the
second o/s, hit enter and then what happens? What message do you get?

Dear paulibus, sorry i did not give much info on my question. This is the
situation: I had these two hard drives installed on my m/c which was running
on an Asus P4R800V m/b. no probs loading either hard drive when needed. The
m/b failed, so i put back my old m/b Asus PsW-e, plugged all the power leads
etc back in and booted up. No probs but when I go to select my 2nd hard
drive, I just get an error message which basically says "have I installed any
new hardware/software etc" and gives me a List of boot up options, none of
which work on the 2nd h/d. So I have to reboot and just use my 1st h/d. Am
I missing something here? New m/b running at 3.06 Ghz, old m/b at present
installed running @ 667 mhz. If you can help, will be much appreciated.

Is the entry for the OS in the boot.ini file pointing to the correct
location e.g. HD

As an intellectual exercise you might changing the jumpers on the dirves to
see if the os on what is now the 2nd dirve will boot.

Also run msconfig from the Start...Run window. Click the BOOT.INI tab.
There will be 2 entries at the bottom starting with "multi(0)", one for each
os. Click the Check All Boot Paths button. It will probably tell you that 1
of them is invalid.

If XP Home will boot, and Pro won't you might try repairing the Pro os,
assuming the install software can find the Pro os. There is a VERY BIG
DANGER that you will ovewrite the working os if the inatallation goes too
far. Be very careful.

I could give you a long explanation of WHY I think this is happening. But
it would'nt solve the problem. In my own case, I have a test pc with 2
dirves. One has XP home, the other 98se. I manually added an entry to
boot.ini for the 98 os. It comes up on the menu, but it will not boot. The
solution for me, is to reinstall 98, and then reinstall XP home.

I apologize that I can't give you more specific information.
