2nd activation of windows xp

i just purchased a laptop with no OS and want to install
my retail version of windows xp that i used on my desktop.
do i have to activate xp again with same key. can i call
microsoft on phone and have it done or is that not
necessary. laptop does not have internet access. how do i
reuse my win xp disc.

If you plan on continuing to run XP on your desktop,
you must purchase a new license (Product Key) for the
second installation, otherwise Product Activation will fail.

Your license to use Windows XP permits you to
install one copy of Windows XP on one computer.
A second installation of Windows XP, installed on
another computer, will require another license.

Go to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then click
on "End-User License Agreement" and read it.

Also, open XP's "Help and Support" and type: EULA
and click on "Questions and Answers about the
End-User License Agreement".

no problem , just do it. phone up no big deal it's
automated., you punch in your # they give you the key.

You don't, unless you're determined to commit software piracy.
Multiple computers require multiple OS licenses, one per machine.
Unless, of course, you can qualify for one of Microsoft's Volume
Licensing plans. This is nothing new.

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright
laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each
computer on which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) multiple installations using a single license.
