How do you compress files in PP 2007? Can't find that option.

The setting is on the Picture ribbon, so you must select an image in order
to get to it. Then look over on the left in the "adjust" group.

Note that "automatically perform basic compression on save" is selected by
default, so your images will actually be compressed when you save the file.

(I feel a FAQ coming on...)

Ahh..that's what the OP was looking for.
If you save in the PPTX format, they are also going to be run through a
zip compression (a PPTX file is essentially a zip file).

LOL.
For making fun of OneNote, they'll get reminded to use it whenever
possible ;)

Now, now, we don't make fun of much of anything here. Except maybe Steve.

So you've got this 50-pound hammer and you're looking for a railroad spike, eh?
Notepad's plenty big enough to drive this brad home. ;-)

Besides, I don't think I've got OneNote on any of the computers that have the
software I use to make the FAQ. It'd just have to get saved back to a plain text
file anyhow.

Start with one MVP logo
Apply

OK, OK. No more OneNod...er... Note jokes.

That's an easy fix..One trip to the website (followed by a complete
removal of Office 2007, and a full reinstall of beta 2 apps incl. ON and
then B2TR) ;)

We will get you to use OneNote, just wait...

It's on my list to try again. I've even got a copy of Kathy's book.

But I've used something called Ecco since I stole it from a passing dinosaur. Doesn't do
everything OneNote does but it's a great outliner and mini-contact database, it's now
free and it's simply the most reliable piece of software I've ever owned. I've been
using the same main file all that time (literally since Win 3.1) and have never lost a
byte of data.

It hasn't been developed in years not, but its owner, Netmanage, has set it free.
Download, use, enjoy, no charge. Not a bad deal.

The network synch feature is simply amazing, btw. A bit tricky to set up but once it's
done, I can have the same data on as many computers as I like, all automatically synched
up whenever I'm on the network.

Very good :) But keep in mind that 2007 is way cooler than 2003 (which
is what her book is about).

Just text? *yawn* Where do you annotate PDFs, Word files, web research
etc? How about storing actual files right with the notes?

*yawn* ON 2007 has a great syncing feature as well. It allows you to
make edits on the same page at the same time on two or more computers
and it still merges everything nicely together. Oh, and it syncs easily
via a file share, a USB stick or SharePoint Server. You can also send
pages including embedded documents to other people via email with a
click.
Then you can integrate the whole thing with Outlook, so that you can
create a new Outlook task e.g. directly in ON, or store notes for some
Outlook item in ON, etc.
Oh, and not to forget, you can convert anything in ON into a blog post
with a few mouse clicks as well.

But, it doesn't get you a beer from the fridge...yet, at least ;)

And beta. I don't put real data in beta. ;-)

Links. Works for me. The last thing I want is a bug ugly ... er, was that big or bug? ...
file with all that stuff shoved into it.

*yawn*

Ecco too. Has had it for years. Keep the file open on both computers, edit something in
one, watch it change in the other within seconds. And it's not beta.

I guess that's something I don't have much need for 'cause all it does is make me *yawn*
(it's contagious, y'see? I must have caught it from you!)
Then you can integrate the whole thing with Outlook,

... if I used Outlook.

Oh, I didn't mention that feature? Do you like dark or light beer? Ecco will ...

... yeah, I wish!

Good for you :)
I have been on 2007 since November, and I have never lost more than a
few seconds worth of data. OneNote saves automatically every few
seconds. So the max I have ever lost is between the last save and a
crash. That comes down to a few words max. It has been a bedrock of data
stability. Every beta build update was lossless, which I can't claim
about some other Office programs. Also, my worst experience with data
loss in beta was with...hmm, what was that program called again? ;)
Links. Works for me. The last thing I want is a bug ugly ... er, was that big or bug? ...
file with all that stuff shoved into it.
Links work too.
That's a nice feature.
Yep. That's how I write my blog.
Oh, I didn't mention that feature? Do you like dark or light beer? Ecco will ... LOL!
... yeah, I wish!

Now OneNote does get me dinner...
But only because my gf and I maintain our weekly meal plan in there and
she does most of the cooking ;)
