Yes, that would be the case. You can set a default textbox, though. Format
the text the way you want, then right-click and choose Set Textbox Default.
Colored shadows aren't usually conducive to readability, although sometimes
they can help, sure.
If you use the placeholders on the slides ("click here to add text"), you
can add your shadows to those on the slide masters and layouts in View |
Slide Master. That's what masters are for -- to give you formatting
consistency so you don't have to apply formatting each time you add text or
whatever.
The shadows on the objects in the galleries are determined by the effects
styles in the themes, and you cannot create your own effects styles in the
PPT interface. You could go to the Design tab and choose a different Effects
Style from the built-in ones. But those aren't text shadows, and they won't
change the shadow color. Text shadows are generally determined by what
you've added to the placeholders. The "WordArt" gallery is a special animal.
You know, I'm not sure where those settings come from, now that we mention
it.
