upgraded pc 2000 to XP and now have no access to dial up connection setup

went to New Connection Wizard and tried to "Set up my connection manually"
but when I get to first opyion--"Connect using dial-up modem"--the radio
button for this particular option is grayed out;

second option--"Connect using broadband connection that requires a username
and password"--also ]grayed out

third option--"Connect using broadband connection that is always on"--_is
active_ but I _cannot deactivate_ this option

reloaded my XP ugrade again--same problem; borrowed friend's SP ugrade and
reloaded again--same problem

went to Dell.com and downloaded modem drivers to laptop and transferred to
pc, and modem test and both check out

any ideas?

Upgraded from W98 to XP & had the same problem - it was identified in the
upgrade report prior to install. Tried the same to fix & finally got back to
the modem - I thought they were pretty robust creatures & even tried other
generic drivers to no avail. Ended up spending $50 & buying a new internal
modem which solved it straight away... suggest likely to do with the new
32bit tech in XP (??!!)
PS - if new gear didn't work, I had intended to take the modem back to the
store for a refund.
Good luck.
