2000 server not joining NT domain I need help!!!

I just finish building a 2000 server to add into my NT
domain but everytime i try it gives me the error that it
cannot find the dns server. I changed the IP but when I
try to ping it gives me a request timed out.
Can someone please help!!!
We need that server up!

Are you trying to add it as a domain controller or a member server?

I had the same problem once before. Make sure that the
DNS is pointing to your DNS server on the NT box. In my
case, the PDC was also our DNS server and had a record for
itself in the zone. Once I did that I could join the
domin.
