2000 Rqst Read Receipt Grayed Out

With Outlook 2000 - I have a user who does not want to
request a read receipt, however, the option is grayed out
and he cannot change it. This is an exchange 2000 site,
however, nothing is explicitly prevented at the Exchange
level. He has administrative privileges so that is not
the issue. He does use offline folders and a Blackberry
(via Blackberry server). Can anyone help me understand
why this option cannot be set?

Greyed out indicates component not installed. Is the user
using word as the default email editor?

I do not believe the user has word as the default email
editor, but will check. Please advise on the connection
with the read receipt option if it is/is not the default
editor?? Also, what install feature is this option
associated with? The "standard" install was taken, e.g.
no customizations.
