200 MB ATA-133 Hard Drive Install Issue

I am trying to install a internal 200 MB ATA-133 Maxtor Harddrive on my
laptop with the Windows XP home addition OS. I am attaching the drive using
a Ultra drive case which supports both Firewire and USB. My laptop has both,
however the USB is a 1.1. The laptop is not recognizing the drive through
either source. However, when I attach the drive to an XP laptop that has
Windows XP pro through a USB 1.1 connect it recognizes it without any issues.
Does that mean that windows XP home addition does not support a 200 MB
drive? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

No, it means XP Home doesn't have the correct "Firewire" (1394) or "USB"
drivers to recognize the hardware - suggest checking the box, it may have a
CD with some USB and Firewire drivers on it - if that fails, go the
manufacturers web site.

To use any drive over 128 GB (137 nominal, decimal billion) you need at
least XP SP1 and a BIOS or controller to support '48 bit LBA'.

Also you will get very poor performance on a HD through USB 1.1. Use
the Firewire, or USB 2.0, for which you will probably need to buy a
cheap USB2.0 card to plug in
