I did something rather stupid today I have 2 HDD's 120Mb each and C:/ drive
carries the system XP2 and the D:/drive is used for backup and ghost
files__I started out to try to install Vista on the D:/ HDD and went into
administrative tools and clicked on the D:/ drive and made it : make
partition as active : now the computer will not boot unless I disable {pull
the plug} from the D:/ drive___what is happening is it is now trying to boot
up to the D:/ drive which has no System installed_______I have a smaller HDD
and connected it up as normal and everything worked__so what can I do to
format the D:/ drive or whatever to cure this problem___I did a backup of
the D:/ drive before I had this trouble___________thanks for looking

Will, you can get a Win98 bootdisk with fdisk on it and using fdisk set
the C:\ to Active. Reconnect the D: drive before
you start this and set the floppy as first boot device in the Bios.
Check here www.bootdisk.com

I have set the BIOS to boot a win 98 bootdisk___BUT If the 2 HDD's are
connected up as normal the boot sequence halts at the press Del window___If
I disconnect the D:/ drive it will boot up and can use Fdisk but that is no
use as it has to show both HDD's to get C:/ as an [The} active drive

You could disconnect your C drive, keeping the D drive connected. Then boot
with either the XP CD or the Vista CD. Delete all partitions on the drive.
Do not create any partitions or format. Shut down and reconnect the C drive.
Boot to Windows. Right click My Computer and select Manage to open the
Computer Management console. From the left side of Computer Management click
on Storage. In the right side of the screen right click on the D drive (or
blank drive) and select the option to Partition. Once partitioned you can
format the drive.

C:/ Drive Disconnected and the BIOS set to boot from XP CD___connected D:/
drive and boot up to XP disk but it all hangs at the Del Window___then I
disconnected the D:/ drive__reconnected the C:/ drive and the computer
booted up to the XP setup sequence_____there is no way of booting from the
D:/ drive its as if it is locked____Then I removed the D:/ drive and fitted
a Samsung 20 GB drive and started all over again by disconnecting the C:/
drive {which carries my XP OS} and booted up to the XP setup
sequence___seems as if I might have to get this D:/ drive {Seagate 120gb} in
another computer______I am still puzzled by this problem and hope somebody
can help

TO all who have been so helpful___I have purchased a West Didg 160 Gb HDD
for $74 from www.msy.com.au fitted and partitioned and formatted__so no real
prob now Except that I have now a Seagate 120gb that will no doubt be
preserved for a while until I find more time to refit and try to
configure__have a feeling it is in the jumper area that one problem could
exist________as I said many thanks to all

It sounds like you have set d: to active. Find a good partition program to
set c: to active and this shoud solve the d: drive problem.
