2 compact discs

I have a w2k box and in the "My computer" folder, it only shows 2 compact
discs. I actually have one dvd-rw and one dvd rom. how can I get 2000 to
recognize that these drives are different? I've uninstalled and reinstalled
from device manager, reloaded the chipset, removed the cables and installed
one at a time with the same results. what should I try next?
 
You'll need to install some burner software.

Check the hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest Windows 2000
driver for your device.

Thats exactly as shown on my sys, though I have a combined dvdr/cdr
From recollection I believe it depends whether you used the cd setup disks
to install drivers.
Personally I ignore it.

I went there first. and was told that there are no drivers for the
hardware. There are only the generic drivers that load with Windows. None
of this is making any sense to me.

What do you think?

for me, none. but I have users in my office that are even less PC savy than
I am. In order to avoid confusion in burning their own discs, it would be
helpful if they could tell which media went where. Incidentally, before we
put the corporate load on this box, it was an XP sp2 machine. and it had no
trouble with the designations. Am I right in thinking this cannot be
resolved?
 
Looks like probably not without support from the manufacturer.

The burning software, such as Nero, clearly identifies which drive does what,
even if it's a combo drive (DVD/CD burner). The only confusion is when they are
not burning any media discs.
