1T/2T question

I am trying to find settings that allow me to run my memory at the 1T
command rate. So far I've had no success; when I change the rate in BIOS and
run Memtest86 I get errors almost immediately at 1T.

Motherboard: ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe
CPU: Athlon 64, X2, 4800+
Memory (installed in slots A2 & B2): 2x1gb OCZ4001024ELPE, timings 2.5-3-2-5
Graphics: EVGA 6800GT

I'm not overclocking at all and the memory is running at DDR400. All timings
are set to "auto."

I'll be most grateful for any suggestions.

Try running at 3 instead of 2.5. Works with my Corsair
CMX1024-3200C2 1 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
(3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) on my A8N-E.

Dear Ken & Coco,

1. Thanks so much. I have a new fan coming in a few days and I'll move the
DIMMs when it arrives; I had put them in the farther slots so keep them from
the overhang of my heat sink. Only after the installation of the sink did I
see that there would have been room in A1 and B1 anyway.

2. I was astonished to find that the newest BIOS for this board (1009),
which I just installed, shows the memory timings but doesn't seem to allow
them to be changed. So I found myself stuck with 2.5. However something else
has changed in this BIOS because I've just run 3-1/2 full passes of
Memtest86 without an error at command rate 1T. So maybe it has fixed itself.
I'll start Memtest86 again tinight when I go to bed and see what wisdom the
morning brings.

Are you running the memory at the OCZ recommended voltage? If you run it
below spec, you may encounter problems.

Make sure you follow OCZ's memory settings recommendations for your memory
module model and capacity (1024 MB/modules in your case). OCZ usually
recommends at least 2.6 Volts, minimum, for their 512 MB modules, and 2.7
Volts for the 1 GB modules.

Thank you, Homer. I seem to be running OK without changing the voltages (and
I have no idea what voltage this board sets for DIMMs automatically. It
turns out that I wasmistaken about not being able to get at the memory
timings -- it's pretty easy. Fortunately it appears that I won't have to do
anything about them in order to get to 1T.
