I unzipped and installed this program into XP/SP2. When I try to run
it all hell breaks loose to the point where I almost have to do a hard
reset to recover XP. It's hard to explain exactly what is going on but
it sure is a mess. Has this happened to you? Are you able to use this
free program and what are your impressions of it?

First I would dump the download you have and get it fresh from the Evrsoft
site. http://www.evrsoft.com/
The one you are using is probably corrupt. And, before you install this
time, turn off your anti-virus software.

Second, I use it and have been for years. I'm probably one of the few who is
still hanging with this program waiting for the new release (FP 3.0 /
FirstPage 2006) to become available. If it is anywhere near as good as
FirstPage 2000 the wait may be worth it.
I visit their site every week (have been for many years) and there has been
so little activity other than the occasional note such as below:
26 July, 2005.
- First Page 2006 closed beta coming soon.

25 July, 2003.
- New Website design (pre)

By the way, don't be bothered if you are alerted about a virus infected file
when installing, it's a false positive or whatever the hell it is called.
Hope this proves useful

Thanks for the tips, Avalon. I followed your instructions to the
letter and the results were the same. When I go to start the program,
a window drops down which says:

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive. Then I
have three options.
Cancel Try Again Continue

None of them do anything. Then, with the aid of CTRL/ALT/Delete, I
fight with the pc for several minutes in an effort to exit Ist Page
without resorting to a hard reset, so far I haven't had to go that
route. Sigh! Guess I'll have to find another program tp learn and use
HTML.

Not tried to re-install yet - it seems there are some problems with a
16 bit installer and a missing DLL noted on the forums for it, with a
repacked installer that may or may not still be available.

Sounds like you have a larger problem - are you sure the source you
got the program from is "clean" ?
