1st page 2000 from Evrsoft- virus

Description: sounds innocent enough:

1st Page 2000 is a fully-featured HTML and script authoring tool
which includes all the functions you would like to have in an
HTML editor. This massive program comes with an impressive
interface and a mixture of all the best features you can find
in top name HTML editors.

I think I read about this one on here- downloaded it and when I went to
install it- Norton told me there was a javascript bomb virus in some of the
program files............

Apparently the virus is not too damaging other than to allow dozens of
windows to open up on your screen.

I emailed these guys to tell them of their diseased file- along with
Norton's message as to which file was the problem child- have not heard
back from them.....

Doubtful. I don't use this one, but it's quite an old program around this
n.g. Lots of regulars here use it, or have recommended it so I think any
viruses would have come to light before now. Probably a false alarm on
Norton's part.

The site/ program hasn't been updated in years AFAIK. There is some doubt
around here whether this company is even active anymore, as the next version
of their software was supposed to come out two or three years ago.

A couple of months back, someone here reported that they had heard something
about the next version of the program, but it has been quiet ever since.

I'll be damned. I had the same problem, and wrote about it in
alt.os.windows2000 just the other day. I noticed that IE started having
20 "temporary Internet files" folders where it normally never had more
than 5. A guy suggested I run an online virus program, which I did,
then follwed by McAfee. It found the JS/Loop virus:

http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=99220

in file "six buttons from hell" in C:\Program Files\Evrsoft\1st Page
2000\IScripts\Buttons.

I deleted the file.

Needless to say, 1st Page 2000, which I really liked, is history.

It is not a virus......

There is a Java Script template that you can use (used as a template or a
joke) that repeatly opens windows. This is what your AV is picking up.
There is no virus and never has been.

a few interesting words to say about this at:

I really like 1st Page. When I encountered this problem, I did the
following:

1. I went to the folder C:\Program Files\Evrsoft\1st Page
2000\IScripts\Buttons

2. I deleted "six buttons from hell.izs"

3. When my antivirus still "detected" a "virus" I edited the file
"buttons.html" in the same folder and removed the link to "six buttons from
hell.izs". Buttons.html is in table format so I had to edit the table so as
not to ruin it's physical layout.

Problem solved.

Confirmed. If you do a search on the web or usenet, this is mentioned
maybe hundreds of times.

iirc the site was "updated" in october 2003 with an announcement that
the new version was nearing completion. I guess we won't be hearing
from them again for the next 2 or 3 years or so.
