16-bit Windows subsystem error

Jeff

I keep getting the error window:

16-bit Windows Subsystem:
C:/Windows/system32/autoexec.nt The system file is not
suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose "Close" to terminate the
application.

Whenever I try to install programs off my CD-ROM.

Do I have a corrupted file or something.

I need to know right away, if someone out there can help
me out.

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

In my visits to various tech help boards, I have noticed that that error
message has become increasingly common within the past month. Just
curious.......before you started getting that error message, did you
recently run any spyware/malware utilities (eg., AdAware, Spybot Search &
Destroy, etc.) and have them "fix" any problems that were found?

Try copying the autoexec.nt file from C:\Windows\repair folder to
C:\Windows\system32 folder and see if that resolves the problem.

I had the same problem running MS-DOS based programs on my pc the problem was
about the "autoexec.nt" file it says:

16-bit Windows Subsystem:
C:/Windows/system32/autoexec.nt

The system file is not
suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose "Close" to terminate the application.

i solve it by copying the autoexec.nt file from the "C:\windows\repair\" to
"C:\windows\system32\ ". After i copied it to the system32 folder, my ms-dos
based program runs properly.

to rcberry thanks a lot for the idea!
