Old Microsoft Mouse mistakenly installed on XP.
Cannot find program to uninstall.
At XP startup 2 windows pop up with message:
"cannot run 16-bit window program"
Not sure waht to remove in *.ini files.
Suggestions?

Apparently your mouse now isn't working but can you get into windows and
move around with your keyboard? If so, try removing the program in
Add/Remove Programs or you can remove the mouse in Device Manager, reboot
and let windows reinstall. If you can't enter normally, access Windows
Advanced Options Menu by pressing F8 during boot and try using "last known
good configuration" or try entering in safe mode and then remove the device
in device manager and reboot.

Thanks for the reply.
System is running fine w/optical mouse (intellipoint 4.1).
Everything seems OK except for the annoying windows at startup.
There is no mouse program on the add/remove list.
I think I have to edit .ini files but not sure what to remove.
Thanks

Why do you think you need to edit some .ini file? You can stop programs
from loading at startup by running MSCONFIG and selecting what you want. If
you know the name of the program that was installed this would help but
intellipoint 4.1 is compatible with XP. Why not just remove the mouse in
device manager and have windows reinstall? I would also update the program
to ver 5.2 http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/Download.mspx

4.1 is not the problem.
Initially a MS Mouse v. 9.01 was loaded.
This was a mistake.
Error windows at startup.
There was no way to remove this thru Add/Delete

4.1 was loaded and sytem runs fine.
16-bit error messages still at startup.

CONFIG & .ini files show old mouse still being loaded at startup.
Disabling old mouse instructions in CONFIG and start up is fine.
Now to figure out how to get rid of those old mouse insturctions.

You might search through the registry for references to the old program and
delete them (back it up first.)
