1394 Device (Hard Drive) Stop Working as Second Device

Windows XP Home Edition. I have one 1394-2000 standard DVD firewire device,
and when I added previously working Maxtor 1394 160GB drive with 1394-1995
Std, the Maxtor Drive stopped working. I found MS article 894956 stating this
is a confirmed problem. However, the workarounds (either disabling
controller and then enabling or turn off power on Maxtor) doesn't bring the
Maxtor to life. I have 80 GB of stuff that I need to retrieve.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions on methodology or procedures.

Have you tried removing the DVD, and then run through the article procedure?

Thanks for the reply. I have both 1394 devices not connected to the machine,
and try to just use the Maxtor 1394 Hard Drive. I really don't need both
connected at the same time. However, when I saw the second firewire port, I
thought I might as well hook up both devices--I was wrong!

I was thinking about disabling the 1394 ports in the BIOS, then reenabling
them, but I started getting nervous as I didn't want to mess up things worse.

Thanks
