12 xp users LAN with router - static IPs better than automatic?

A small business with 12 windows xp users share a DSL connection using a 4
port router & 2 switches. I feel their internet connection speed could be
faster. Right now, each pc has an automatically assigned IP address. If I
assigned each of them their own static seperate IP address (outside of the
router's DHCP range), would it improve their internet & network speeds?

No. Provided that it's in the right range of addresses, the actual IP
address and the way that it's assigned has no effect on a computer's
network and Internet speeds.

Like Steve said, DHCP doesn't impact the speed/performance once the
card gets an address. The only time DHCP presents delays is when you
get an IP address lease at the beginning of your session.

What can help things is if you set up a local caching DNS server (many
routers already support this) which will help with name resolution.
For network speed, look at how you have everything configured with
your switches. Remember that all of the computers on a particular
switch share the one link to the other switch. It helps to plan out
how you want to connect these machines.

12 users on one entry level DSL connection?
Depending on the type of activities and how many concurrent connections are
active, it might be inherently slow.
I.e consider a faster business connection.
Otherwise check the TCP/IP parameters and if needed optimize each computer

Promise you won't laugh...

My office is currently using a DSL connection for it's internet. Total
Number of Users = 65.

They don't want to pay for a T1 and there are no other alternatives
that would be faster...
