10 Open Source programs you should have:

Nvu - Web site authoring system.

Waste - Encrypted Collaboration Tool

Firefox - Replace Internet Explorer for all your browsing needs

Filezilla - FTP client and server

Ethereal - network protocal analyzer (aka Packet sniffer)

The GIMP - Graphics tool, ala Photoshop. 2.0 is improved, but the
interface still takes some getting used to.

PuTTY - Telnet/SSH Client

OpenOffice - A free productivity suite compatible with all major office
suites.

PDFCreator - Creates PDFs from any Windows program.

Xchat - Multi-platform Open Source IRC client

The compiled binary for X-Chat (#10 on the list) is now $ware
(http://www.xchat.org/windows/). The source code, however, is still
available under GPL.

I like Serif PhotoPlus6 better.

PuTTY - Telnet/SSH Client

Its encryption tunnel is way too fiddly to set up. UltraVNC has nearly
built-in encryption if you use its plugin (which needs to be
downloaded separately).

suites.

I'd add Irfanview, AVG, Outpost Firewall, and MS Antispyware

Excellent programs, but, (in the spirit of this thread) they are freeware,
not Open Source.
