10.0 mbps, 2 pcs

I have connected 2 pcs. I am running xp home on both. Have a netgear
internet hub between them. Everything seems to be working okay. Except it
isn't. The host computer says it is connected to the other one. At a lousy
10.0 mbps. Too slow for the other computer to log on to the net. I have
purged caches, renewed addresses, and plugged and unplugged, rebooted, etc.
I don't believe the 2 computers are communicating at all, despite what the
icons in the taskbars say.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

What model of hub is it? It could be that the hub only works at 10mbs.

netgear en 104

Can I bypass the hub and simply attach the 2 pcs via the output in the back
of the host pc?
