Change connection from 10.0 mbps to 100.0 mbps?

I have a simple 2-computer network: A desktop and a notebook, both
connected to a Netgear router by cable.

Last week, while having some problems (the nature of which I've already
forgotten), a Netgear technician walked me through some steps, one of which
was somehow to set a connection speed of 10.0 mbps on my desktop connection.

Now, a task of copying a large batch of folder/files from my desktop to my
notebook is taking over an hour when it used to take about a half hour. The
only thing I can think of is the slower connection speed.

If I open Network Connetions on my desktop, and right-click the applicable
connection, and Status, I'm told the speed is 10.0 mbps.
If I do the same on my notebook, I see a speed of 100.0 mbps.

First, is this the problem? Second, if it is, can I reset the connection
speed to 100 mbps?

Thanks.

Yes, this is the problem.

If your netgear router supports 100mbps, then you may switch back the
connection speed to 100mbps. This setting is usually available in the
network card properties. Better set all your network cards to "autodetect".

No guarantee that the original problem won't be back - repost if running in
trouble.

Thanks. I found the place to change the setting. And regarding the
original problem coming back, my recollection is that it never was resolved
in the first place. (I think we were trying to figure out why my desktop
can't log on to my Netear router, while my notebook can. The desktop still
can't log on, but any changes that are necessary can be made from the
notebook.)

In any case, the connection seems to be running at 100 mbps now.

Many thanks.
