1.0.701 = Same Old Usability Issues

I

Ian E

I have posted about this twice before - with the previous 2 releases.

MSAS provides System Explorers for checking out what's running on your
system, what's installed as a startup program etc.

UNFORTUNATELY the usability of the System Explorers is greatly compromised
by the lack of the ability to NAVIGATE through the various listings using
the CURSOR KEYS.

For example, using the "Running Processes" system explorer one has to click
the mouse on each and every item sequentially, on the left hand side of the
screen, and avert one's eyes to the right hand side of the screen to see the
details for that item, and then revert one's eyes to the left hand side of
the screen to facilitate clicking on the next item in the list. If one
could just use the cursor keys to move from one item to the next in the
list, one could ignore the left hand side of the screen altogether and just
focus on the item details on the right.

Do any of the Microsoft developers ever read this feedback?

Oh and why is this development project taking so darn long? I don't think
Netscape Navigator ever spent this long in beta? In fact I think they
would've gone through 2 whole release levels in the space of time that the
MSAS developers are going through 2 betas.

I know of no changes to the beta except for the expiration date in the new
build.

I expect that the end result of this beta will be worth the wait. I also
believe that the spyware culture and climate will have changed substantially
in the time between the start of this beta and the release of the final
product. There's a lot of work in coalition building and organizational
efforts involved in creating that change--I understand your feelings about
how long it is taking--I certainly never expected it to take this long
myself. However, I don't think that the timing relates so much to the time
required for the development effort as to broader issues--the
antispyware.org's proceedings, and the effort to integrate this technology
into at least three other products besides the free stand-alone Windows
Defender which will be one result of this beta.

The UI WILL NOT be changed until the next version is released, otherwise it
wouldn't be version 1 anymore, and version isn't ready, nor scheduled to be
released.
