0x50 error while installing xp pro

Hello everybody.

Some days ago my computer started to show the message "boot failure, system
halted", but trying to reboot four or five times ended in a sucessfull boot.
Yesterday I tried to re-install windows xp rebooting from the cd, my
intention was to format and clean my system. But at the time of installation
just before the program gives the option to install or repair I obtain a blue
screen with the next message:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF87C04AB,0X00000000,0xF87C04AB,0X00000000)
partmgrsys - address F87C04AB base at F87BE000, Datestamp 00000000

And I can't go on with the installation. What would you do? A hard disk or a
memory problem??
When the system boots at fourth or fifth trying, I can work with the
computer without problems.

Any ideas??

Thanks a lot!!

(My system is pentium IV with 512 mb ram, xp pro sp2 and security updates,
160 mb ide hard disk)

Partmgr.sys is the Partition Manager driver in Windows XP. This error
may therefore indicate a possible problem with the hard drive
partition and data structure; or with the hard drive itself.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their
diagnostic test utility. Run it to check out the hard drive for
possible mechanical or electronic faults.

Go into the BIOS setup of your computer and see if there is a BIOS
function for S.M.A.R.T. monitoring of the hard drive. If it is there
then ensure that it is not disabled.

Boot the computer with the Windows XP installation CD and select the
Repair (Recovery Console) option. When the computer has finished
booting and stops at the command prompt enter the following command:

CHKDSK C: /R

and see what the results are.

Good luck
