ZoneAlarm Antivirus Manual Update?

P

Paul R

I believe the ZoneAlarm AntiVirus is based on the CA Vet product. With the
CA product you can manually download a Vet Signature file to keep it up to
date. (I am looking after 8 PCs with only dial-up connection, which means 8
x the download if it has to be done automatically over the net - that means
8 times the dial costs.)

I have broadband at home, so downloads and cut to CD is no problem for me.

I have asked ZoneLabs, who say this is not a feature of their AntiVirus -
but given it uses the CA engine and they permit manual update - I wondered
if anyone else had found a way to do it for ZoneAlarm?

Thanks

Nope... the same VPatcher utility that can be used for 6.2.x+ or 11.5+
engine updates does not work with the Zone Labs product.

<Thanks>

Hello,

Using ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6.0 and regularly receive my updates daily,
sometimes twice a day. This is the best security program I have ever used.
I highly recommend it to all users.

A strong testimonial. Do you have Windows 98 by any chance? ZoneAlarm's web
site says it supports Windows 98SE but doesn't say anything about plain old
Windows 98 (right, I know it's kind of old). Anybody out there using the
newest ZoneAlarm Security Suite with Windows 98 successfully?

Also, I'm keen on being able to back out an "update" if it causes a
problem. Does ZoneAlarm Security Suite allow this?

Background: I've used McAfee VirusScan for years, and have been mostly
happy with it. Occasionally, though, one of its "dat" files caused my
computer to fail. Since I downloaded the dat files manually, I could go
back to one that was ok. But from other postings in this newsgroup, I get
the impression that current versions of VirusScan don't allow this. And
with Windows 98, the OS doesn't help back out. So I'm looking at
alternatives.
