XP taskbar auto-hide not working

My taskbar wont auto-hide.

If I choose its properties - then unselect "auto-hide" - apply - ok -
it stays up (as it should)
But if I then re select "auto hide" and apply - it auto-hides once,
but then stays up after the next time.

This only started the other day - but i havent made any software
changes or applied any Windows updates.

Can anyone help?

Reboot.

Do you also have 'Always on top' checkmarked ? That may be overriding
'Autohide' after the first time.
