XP SP2 caused problem in Photo & Imaging Software

I installed XP SP2 last fall and since then have been unable to use HP photo
and imaging software. HP tells me that in order to get their Software to work
again I would have to UNINSTALL XP SP2 before installing an HP patch for the
Image Zone.
My question is this: since there have been numerous critical updates to SP2
since the initial download, would I have to start all over installing these
additional updates if I uninstall SP2?

Could Microsoft and HP not find a solution to the problem
created by SP2 in the photo & imaging software without having to resort to
uninstalling SP2? There are numerous others in the same situation as me;one
only has to go to HP forums on photo & imaging to see everyone's frustrations
due to SP2. You would think that one of Microsoft's MVP's would be able to
tell us how to correct the registry keys that give an invalid path name to
the imaging software which causes Internet Explorer to open up instead of the
photo gallery! I am unable to save photos scanned with my HP all-in-one
machine which uses HP software since installing SP2. Does anyone have a
solution without UNINSTALLING SP2?

Thanks Mary, for the suggestion. However the link you gave me is for "Image
Zone Express", a lighter version of Image Zone than the complete "HP Photo &
Imaging" Software that came with my printer/scanner. I am happy to report,
though, that yesterday I found a new update on the HP's download
site(SP27940, actually dated March 14, 2005!) "which corrects the issue in
Image Zone software where Active X controls and error dialogs were generated
after applying XP SP2." For others who might have encountered the same
problem, here is the link to the website:
