XP Service Pack 2 install errors

Lorne

I am trying to install service pack 2 for XP. When I reboot after
installation my pc goes into a loop and continually reboots on its own.
I have to come up in safe mode and uninstall SP 2 and then I am fine.

I need SP2 in order to run Microsoft SQLServer 2005.

Due to the apparent incompatibility of SP2 with some installed
applications as well as some hardware it makes me think that I will
never be able to to use SQLServer 2005 on my XP machine far less allow
other developers to use it.

Does anyone know whether SP3 will solve these issues?
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I should proceed?

Thanks.

You're in for a long wait if you are planning around SP3, which according to
latest reports will be available in early 2007.

You might check the M$ site for the SP2 incompatibility list, and then try
to isolate which app or hardware is the culprit. It's been 18 mo. since I
upgraded and I no longer have a link to this list.
